We try so hard to not feel something that is unpleasant or overwhelming and the next thing we know we have created an entirely new set of feelings and usually unhelpful experiences.
The paradigm is when we embrace those feelings we were trying to not feel in the first place is when we actually can begin to move through them and let go.
Therapy is that vehicle that we can use to get there: to that place where we can feel our feelings, move through them, and keep living that life we desire.

I could get lost in my head and think the day away dreaming about all the places to go and things to do. During our work together, you'll probably hear me say "dream with me for a moment" more than once because getting into the headspace of envisioning the future is a crucial part of self-discovery. I feel deeply, which can make those feelings a little on the tricky side and yoga and meditation have been an integral part of keeping me grounded long enough to sit, be present, and feel.
How I became a social worker some would say was me answering a calling, others would say was on impulse, and I would say was pure intuition. Despite declaring an education major, during freshmen orientation when we were on the way to the education building we passed the social work department. I had an immediate feeling this was where I was supposed to be. I completed my Master of Social Work (MSW) from The Ohio State University in 2010 and my BA in Social Work from The University of Findlay in 2009.
Yoga became part of the practice because I firmly believe in the benefits of somatic healing by connecting both the body and the mind. My vision was to bring the healing benefits of yoga and therapy together in one place that was supportive of mental health. I completed my 200 hr certification in yoga and I am registered with the Yoga Alliance.

Therapy is a collaborative relationship between the client and the clinician. My approach to therapy is holistic, which allows me to provide a safe space in which my clients can explore and accept who they are. Because of my holistic approach, I implement mind, body, and spirit to help clients understand themselves as a whole person. To facilitate this process of self-discovery, I have a non-directive and supportive manner that encourages openness and trust in the therapeutic process.
I am a highly sensitive person, so I tend to be more aware of subtleties that go unnoticed by others. I am deeply moved by music and the arts. I tend to overthink, so I work to find ways to connect with my emotional self through grounding and being present.
American author and philosopher Howard Thurman said, “Ask what makes you come alive, and go do it. Because what the world needs is people who have come alive.” I decided to become a therapist after spending a few years as a technical writer. My journey has not been a direct one, but helping others through therapy is something that makes me come alive. I want to help my clients discover what makes them come alive.

If your brain's a bit of a whirlwind, and you're tired of just talking about feelings, we might be a great fit. ADHD and neurospicy brains often thrive with movement and embodied experiences, and I’m passionate about bringing that into therapy. Forget sitting still for an hour! We'll explore how your body holds stress, process emotions through gentle movement, and tap into your sensory experience. We’ll work together to build strategies that honor your unique neurodiversity, and create a therapy space that feels like it fits you.
My path to social work was paved with spiritual exploration. A Master of Divinity deepened my understanding of the human condition, revealing the interconnectedness of mind, body, and soul. It's this compassionate, holistic perspective that informs my therapeutic approach. While I'm not a Christian counselor, my Master of Divinity provides a unique perspective, allowing for a deeper understanding of spiritual and existential themes that may arise in therapy.
I'm a creative soul, an artist, and a former dancer – and that's a big part of who I am as a therapist. Dance will always be my first love, and it taught me how deeply connected our minds and bodies are. This experience fuels my passion for mind-body connection therapy, helping clients find healing through movement and embodied presence.

Therapy is a relationship between equals. You come with your own rich history of experiences, as does the therapist. We can both use these experiences to connect with each other and with the deeper, more hidden parts of ourselves. The therapist is there to help guide you on the journey, encouraging and challenging you along the way.
You do the hard work of moving forward, taking steps, sometimes falling, then getting back up again.
Often, the tendency is to avoid those painful moments of falling, to just keep doing what you were doing before. The therapist is there to help you get back up and approach the hard things again and again until they are the new norm.

Creative processes endlessly fascinate me. I love knowing how things (almost anything!) are made. This is probably because I prefer the softer and gentler side of life and try to live a little bit on the slow side. As an Enneagram Four, I see the beauty in things and am quick to point it out. My environment is important to me and if it doesn’t feel right, I don’t feel right. I lean hard into the feel of something and into nostalgia. I feel deeply, which can make those feelings a little on the tricky side and yoga and meditation have been an integral part of keeping me grounded long enough to sit, be present, and feel.
Therapy is serious work, but it can be fun. I promise I don't bite, but I also won't bullshit you and all I ask for is the same. I want you to know that I believe in you and that you can do this, whatever “this” is. My hope is that you will avoid less and approach more. This looks like connection to yourself first and foremost. I received my Bachelor’s of Arts in Psychology and my Master’s of Science in Counseling from SMU.
Joining the AP Counseling + Yoga team was a dream because I get to blend mind, body, and spirit- all of which we must address if we want true healing. I am well known for asking “where do you feel that in your body?” and you'll likely be asked to reflect on how your body holds onto your feelings.

Have you left the church or are thinking about leaving the church? Maybe your current beliefs don’t align with your church’s beliefs or what you used to believe. Others may not understand your journey and say or do harmful things, leaving you with a loss of community. Therapy is a safe space to discuss your beliefs, figure out how to deconstruct and reconstruct your faith, and troubleshoot the issues that can come with leaving a faith community.

Individual therapeutic yoga sessions are an opportunity to bring an empowering, experiential component to the therapeutic experience. When words aren't enough to fully access or describe an experience, movement can enrich your therapeutic work by integrating the benefits of emotional regulation, grounding, centering techniques, strength, balance, and a sense of release.
Amanda has a bachelor's degree in fine arts with a minor in psychology from UNT. She trained in Yoga and Yoga Therapy at the Kripalu Center for Yoga and Health and the Ananda Seva Mission. Amanda has completed trainings in mindfulness based stress reduction, accessible yoga, and is currently finishing a comprehensive certificate in Pilates and personal training. She has been teaching in the mental health and addiction recovery space for over 12 years, and she teaches with an inclusive, accessible approach that integrates movement into life.
Movement is a bridge that connects our bodies and our minds, and moving mindfully can be an integrative process- enriching our lives and allowing us to become a more whole version of ourselves.

YACEP, Trauma Informed E-RYT 500, Mindful-Self Compassion Guide, Community Resiliency Model Teacher Trainer. Kierstin received her 200 hour in Dallas Texas which led her to Trauma informed yoga with Soulwork, and then a certification in Yoga Therapy with Breathing Deeply. She currently offers Trauma Sensitive Yoga at recovery spaces, juvenile Court, and crisis centers. Kierstin's goal is to empower individuals in finding what feels supportive to them by creating a space for curiosity and exploration vs. judgement (on and off the mat)!
As a trauma informed therapeuticyoga teacher I see the strength in empowering a person to find what feels supportive to them. To foster their choice and experience by holding space for their curiosity and exploration vs. judgement. I believe that this experience can begin to translate off the mat and be integral to someone's journey and recovery.
