Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) is a psychotherapy treatment that is designed to alleviate the distress associated with traumatic memories by using bilateral stimulation through rapid eye movement, bilateral sound, bilateral tapping, EMDR tappers, buzzers, or pulsars. EMDR was developed by Francine Shapiro in 1987.

A typical EMDR therapy session is 1 hour once per week. By doing an intensive, you can have 3-6 weeks’ worth of sessions in one day. If doing multiple days of an intensive, you can have up to 18 weeks’ worth of sessions in one week. EMDR is often quicker than traditional talk therapy, meaning that instead of attending several weeks or months of sessions, you may be able to attend just one week of sessions. This is great for people who are wanting to work on something quickly, people who do not have the time to commit to multiple weeks of sessions, or even people who are in Dallas for a shorter amount of time and would like to work with me.

Therapy is a relationship between equals. You come with your own rich history of experiences, as does the therapist. We can both use these experiences to connect with each other and with the deeper, more hidden parts of ourselves. The therapist is there to help guide you on the journey, encouraging and challenging you along the way. You do the hard work of moving forward, taking steps, sometimes falling, then getting back up again. Often, the tendency is to avoid those painful moments of falling, to just keep doing what you were doing before. The therapist is there to help you get back up and approach the hard things again and again until they are the new norm.

A therapy intensive is a concentrated period of therapy sessions, often occurring over a few days or weeks. These sessions are typically more frequent and in-depth than traditional weekly sessions.

What is a therapy intensive?

Rapid Progress
Intensives can provide significant progress in a shorter timeframe.

Focused Attention
Clients receive dedicated attention from their therapist, allowing for deeper exploration of issues.

Structured Environment
The intensive setting can offer a supportive and structured environment conducive to healing.

Ideal for Specific Needs
Intensives are often beneficial for individuals with complex issues, those seeking rapid symptom relief, or those who have difficulty committing to long-term therapy.

Why consider a therapy intensive?

If you are seeking a more intensive approach to therapy, struggling with a particular issue, or looking for a concentrated period of healing, a therapy intensive may be a good option. A therapy intensive is not designed for someone in active crisis.
